Do You Suffer From Fibromyalgia?

Massage therapy can improve chronic pain and fibromyalgia symptoms. Deep relaxation reduces stress, pain, and muscle tension.

Many clients claim that monthly massage sessions keep their pain under control. One client diagnosed with fibromyalgia said "Massage therapy has helped me get through really bad bouts with deep spinal pain and tenderpoint pain."

In a study geared to fibromyalgia patients, it was concluded that massage therapy provided the following benefits: increased serotonin level, decreased circulating stress hormones, decreased levels of substance P (basically a pain messenger), decreased tender point pain, improved sleep patterns, and improved overall sense of wellbeing.

Can't Sleep Because You're in Pain?

Do you find it hard to sleep because you're in pain?

Massage helps to reduce pain.

During massage there is a release of serotonin, which is the body's natural production of anti-pain chemicals.

Additionally, an aggravating factor in pain syndromes can be a lack of deep, restorative sleep.

Massage is very effective at increasing deep sleep.

With more deep sleep, you have less pain.

Our Massage Treatments Are "Just Right"

I question I'm asked a lot is, "What type of massage to you do?"

It's really kind hard to pin it down to one thing or another. It's relaxing like swedish but firm and focus like deep tissue.

The best way I like to describe it is, I try to give each client the massage they need and enjoy which is the kind I like too.

So book in with us and enjoy a relaxing deep tissue massage for when the pressure of a sports massage too much and spa massage is not enough.

Our massage treatments are just right.

Emotional Benefits of Massage Therapy

Most of us can agree that getting a massage feels awesome. Not only is it great for relaxation but also have many benefits for pain relief and injury. Many of you receive massage treatment for back or neck pain, headaches, or muscle tension. Beyond these physical benefits, massage therapy can also provide many benefits for your emotional health. Here are a few reasons why massage is great for your emotional well being.

1. Relaxation- from the minute you lie on the massage table all of your thoughts, worries and your to-dos fade away. You are able to quiet your mind and enter a state of relaxation and bliss.

2. Sense of peace and self-awareness- when we get caught up in our lives we may lose the connection between our minds and bodies. Massage will bring awareness of areas of stiffness and tension that you may have not even noticed. Also, our minds can be filled with many thoughts, worries, regrets, hopes. Meditating or calming the mind during your massage treatment can help you isolate the important things and let go of the insignificant.

3. Improved energy and alertness- massage can help renew your energy and lead to improved decision-making and a clearer sense of focus. Massage can also help improve sleep.

4. Reduced anxiety, depression, and stress- Stress happens to all of us and it can have damaging consequences. It is estimated that 80-90% of all disease is somehow related to stress. The ability to relax during massage can bring changes to your body that can help reduce the causes and symptoms from stress. Massage stimulates the production of endorphin’s such as serotonin and dopamine which help with depression. In one study the stress hormone corisol decreased by up to 53% after massage.

6. Better focus and concentration– If you are facing illness, stressors, or pain it can lead to trouble concentrating. Massage can help reduce muscle tension, improve circulation and relieve pain. In turn, the affects on the body will provide clarity and energy.

After a massage you may feel like a whole new you. These are just a few of the many benefits of massage. If you have never had a massage before or you regularly experience the benefits, we would love to help you improve your mental, physical and emotional health with massage therapy. The Stress Response

The stress response is intended to be a temporary state; it keeps us physically ready to face or flee danger and then fades away when the danger has passed.

Unfortunately, if the 'danger' or cause of the stress response doesn't go away, our reaction to it never fades and we are kept permanently in the 'fight or flight' state. Our bodies are not designed to tolerate stress as a continuous state, and it can make us susceptible to illness.

Massage can help reverse the effect of stress on the body, bringing us back to a more relaxed state of 'rest and digest'.

Swollen Feet During Pregnancy?

For anyone who has been pregnant, or known someone who has been pregnant, a common ailment towards those last few months is going to be swollen feet. It happens to the best of us, and is caused by fluid retention which at times can become uncomfortable and even painful. Now, any extreme swelling or discomfort should always be raised with your doctor or midwife, as persistent swelling could be a sign of pre-eclampsia, but if you’re just dealing with the regular old swelling we have a massage for you:

Foot & leg massage for pregnancy.

Everyone knows foot massages are amazing, and even more so during pregnancy. What you might not know is there is a particular way to perform a foot massage during pregnancy that can help reduce swelling. This special technique helps to draw the fluid away from the feet and ankles, temporarily reducing the inflammation and discomfort.

So book in a relaxing 1 Hour foot & leg massage to help reduce that swelling:

• The massage would would start by massaging the feet in an upwards motion go from the toes up to the ankle. Keeping a firm, steady pressure.

• Next, massaging from the ankle to the knee. Again, using steady pressure with both hands wrapped around the leg (as much as is comfortable) and make single strokes in one fluid motion.

• Finally, massaging from the knee up the thigh. Continuing to keep steady pressure and retain fluid motions, alternating positions so the whole leg is massaged.

The reason this technique works is because it creates a “straw-like” sucking effect that encourages the fluid that is retained in the ankles and feet to be drawn upwards and away from the extremities, temporarily reducing swelling and relieving pain and pressure.

Parenting - a pain in the neck? or back?

Do you suffer from neck or back pain?

Regular massage, exercise and stretching can help. Your back pain could be caused by repetitive strain. Maybe you are carrying your baby or child awkwardly or always on the same side.

Pain is your body's way of telling you to change. The lack of proper hydration could also affect your back and could be a cause of back pain.

Make sure you are more aware of your posture and how you are doing things as well as staying hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Do you Suffer from Sciatica?

Massage therapy helps alleviate sciatic nerve pain in 2 ways:

• Tight lower back muscles can place stress on your nerve roots. Massage therapy loosens these muscles and helps prevent pinching or irritation.

• A massage encourages the release of pain-fighting endorphins - this can provide temporary relief from symptoms like the throbbing pain in your foot or the burning sensation in your leg.
